Last week I saw the #FlyingScotsman #steamlocomotive at #Locomotion, a branch of the National #Railway #Museum #NRM in #Shildon, #CountyDurham. The Flying Scotsman was built 96 years ago in Doncaster. The #train became famous for being the first #steamtrain to break the 100mph speed barrier (161kmh) in 1934. In 1989 it performed the longest non-stop run of any steam train by travelling 422 miles (679 km) in Australia. The Flying Scotsman toured America and Canada in the 1960s and 1970s, and was used as a promotional tool of British invention, #culture and products. It is now owned by the National Railway Museum and spent 2006 to 2016 being completely refurbished. #train #locomotive #education #edutainment #engineering #railfan #history #heritage #CoDurham #CountyDurham #VisitShildon #VisitCoDurham #VisitCountyDurham #VisitEngland #travel #tourism #tourist #leisure #life
