The #Drachenfels #Railway is an electric #rackrailway in #Königswinter, #Germany. Rack railways climb steep hills using a cog system in a 'toothed' third line to help them climb. This railway is 134 years old, and is a real piece of #transport #history. Here the #train is pictured at the Drachenfels summit. Several legends surround the Drachenfels, most famously that #Siegfried – the hero of the #Nibelungenlied – killed the #dragon #Fafnir, who lived in a cave in the hill, then bathed in its blood to become invulnerable. Hence, the hill is named the "Dragon's Rock", Drachenfels. #train #transport #travel #tourism #tourist #fact #culture #education #history #Deutschland #IgersKönigswinter #IgersGermany #solotravel #adventure #explore #seetheworld #railfan #heritage
